Courtney came to me drowning in Etsy fees and wanting her own brand. She was thinking minimal, simple, black and white... you know, " modern professional " vibes.
Then she sent me a photo shoot pic. Her, on the bed, legs up in the air crossed, holding a book like it's the sexiest thing in the world (yep a free foot pic) 👀
That's when I knew we weren't doing minimal!!
I convinced her to add a pop of purple (she loves it now), and the spicy copy got to match her actual personality - playful, a little cheeky, nothing like the buttoned-up version she thought she needed to be.
Just might be my favorite website copy thus far!
They Could've Been Boring (They Weren't)
A firefighter bagpipe band that had literally nothing online and definitely didn't want another boring "here's when we play at funerals" website.
So I got to know every single member and wrote hilarious bios for each one. There's even one guy who missed photo day, so we made him slowly enter the screen "late" with animation because... of course we did.
But here's the thing - we also honor their fallen respectfully. Because you can be funny AND take the serious stuff seriously. They're not mutually exclusive.
We still laugh about this site.
Medical Jargon? Nope.
Dr. Parkar is a PT, but nothing about her practice is your typical cold clinical waiting room. She does somatic, integrative work - the kind where people actually need to feel safe, not like they're in a doctor's office.
So professional, sure. But cozy. Warm. The kind of space where you can actually breathe.
Throughline comes from the concept of a journey, so we ran with it - literal lines throughout the design, slow-moving photos that actually tell the story instead of just sitting there looking pretty.
Oh, and I didn't just hand her a website and peace out. I integrated her whole booking system so clients can schedule without the nightmare of email ping-pong. Because a gorgeous site that doesn't actually help you run your business? That's just expensive wall art.
She broke the template
Heidi showed up with a realtor template that was doing her zero favors. Masculine, sharp angles, the kind of design that screams "I picked this in 2015 and never looked back."
She knew what she wanted: blush, black, gold. Feminine. Polished. The kind of pretty that makes you want to keep scrolling.
But templates don't just look wrong - they sound wrong. Her copy was the same generic "let me help you find your dream home" stuff you've read on a thousand realtor sites.
I spent days in her Instagram comments and captions, watching how she actually talks to clients. Then we rewrote the whole thing to sound like her - not like a realtor trying to sound professional.
And yeah, we made it pretty. Moving icons, animated numbers that show off her success without feeling like she's screaming about it. Because when you've closed that many deals, the work can speak for itself.
Before you scroll back up and overthink this...
FinallyREADY TO BRAG ABOUT YOUR WEBSITE
You're literally the only badass still sending typo'd links on purpose. Let's fix that. No friendship bracelets required. Just a website you'll actually want to share.
